Who Wrote Second Corinthians?

The Apostle Paul wrote this Epistle with Timothy as his companion.

The Purpose of 2 Corinthians

Titus brings news that those in sin have repented and the situation in Corinth is improved. Paul writes:

    1. To praise them for their sorrow and repentance for sin

    2. To express forgiveness, joy and love to the Corinthian believers

    3. To prepare them for his third visit

    4. To remind them and urge them to complete their monetary commitment

    5. To defend his authority as an apostle

Overview of the Message and Content in 2 Corinthians

2 Corinthians is the most auto-biographical of Paul's letters containing numerous references to the hardships he endured in the course of his ministry.

Throughout this letter Paul defends his apostolic conduct, character and call. The book consists of five main parts:

    1. Paul's explanation of his ministry (1-6)

    2. Paul's expression of joy for repentance at Corinth (7)

    3. Paul's exhortation to generosity in giving (8,9)

    4. Paul presents and defends his Apostolic credentials (10,11)

    5. Paul's plan for a future visit (12)
