The Resurrection

A look at my thoughts about the resurrection. Enjoy the questions and answers.

Christ didn’t really die on the cross he only fainted and then revived later on in the tomb!

Assuming the “swoon” theory is assuming that Christ endured beatings, a crown of thorns, scourging, the crucifixion and even a sword in his side. He was then wrapped in linen with 100 pounds of spices and put in tomb.

After all this, Jesus was revived even with the great blood loss and hours in a tomb with out water or food. He then escaped the grave by removing his cloths and then rolling a stone up an incline and then overcoming the guards.

He then walked many miles on nail pierced feet and convinced the disciples that he had conquered death.

This theory holds no water. Those who believe this also believed that Jesus lived on after all this and died a natural death in obscurity.

The disciples actually did steal the body and went around spreading the rumor that Christ rose!

This was the original explanation for the empty tomb (Matt. 28:11-15).

This would have taken a great amount of planning for a group of men who had no real motive to move the body. In fact, the disciples endured great suffering because of their testimony about the resurrected Lord, most to the point of death.

Such behavior would have been absurd if they had know it was all a lie.

The disciples and the women in their grief stricken state suffered from a hallucination that Christ rose from the dead!

This is not a valid theory for a number of reasons.

(1) Hallucinations are private, not shared experiences.

(2) Hallucinations are generally restricted to favorable places and times of day. Christ appeared in a variety of places and times in a random pattern.

(3) Only certain types of people are subject of hallucinations. Christ appeared to a great range of people.

(4) Christ appeared for 40 days and then ceased to exist. Hallucinations generally reoccur over a long period of time and do not stop abruptly.

(5) Hallucinations are stimulated by expectation. The disciples had no hope at all of Christ's resurrection. In fact, they were skeptical.

(6) The disciples touched, talked and ate with the Lord. This cannot be done with hallucinations.

Really we do not know where the body of Jesus was placed. After he died it was probably thrown into an unmarked grave!

This is unacceptable since all four Gospels state that Joseph of Arimathea obtained permission from Pilate to bury the body of Jesus in his newly hewn tomb.
