Real Miracles
How can a rational person today accept the stories of miracles in the Bible? Aren’t miracles contrary to the laws of modern science?
The fact remains that real miracles are happening all around us. Take flight for example. You can be a rational person and still have faith in the fact that that a bee can fly. Yet if a rational person thinks about it in a scientific manner, he would discover that according to the law of Aerodynamics, that bee should not be able to fly. Is this a miracle? If a person built a plane using the structure of a bee, it would be a miracle if it flew. Another example would be flying a plane. The laws of modern science (gravity) have been suspended because of the law of Aerodynamics. Miracles are certainly a part of modern science. A rational person uses miracles daily.
There is no historical basis for the miracles in the Bible. Aren’t they simply myths and legends designed to create religious faith?
The Bible is a remarkable historical record that gives attention to detail. The accounts of the real miracles are not exception. Some feel that the miracles recorded in the Gospels were a myth or a fabrication. That there just wasn’t sufficient time between the life of Christ and the written accounts for all the mythology to pop up. On the contrary. There would have been far too many eyewitnesses who could have disproved these myths. These miracles were done in front of thousands of witnesses. Many of these witnesses were even hostile towards Christ. Yet, none of these individuals ever gave a historically recorded refutation of these supposed myths.
If there were miracles then why doesn’t God perform miracles today?
There is no reason why God could not perform miracles today. If he did perform a miracle in front of a skeptic and he would still find ways to dismiss it as hallucination or indigestion. Miracles do not create faith. Miracles are the catalyst used by the Spirit to begin considering Christ.
