Situation in Judah

- Israel and Judah are threatened by Assyria.

- Israel is eventually taken and exiled to Assyria.

- Micah addresses Judah after Israel has fallen (722 B.C.)

Message

- Micah address the sins of idolatry but also condemns the nation for sins of injustice, greed and covetous.

- Micah comments on punishment for sin and then turns his attention to Israel's ultimate restoration.

- He offers hope: A son of David will be born in Bethlehem and he will save his people from their sins (Micah 5:2-4).

Audience

- Judah, the Southern Kingdom
